Artwork With Congressional Approval
KDLT
A young Sioux Falls artist received congressional recognition Monday for his acrylic painting of Palisades Queen Rock.
It took 20 hours for 16-year-old Will Drzycimski to paint the iconic South Dakota scene. He started with a simple picture and then added more details like leaves to his work.
His painting was chosen over hundreds of others and will hang in the U.S. Capitol Building for the next year.
South Dakota Congresswoman, Kristi Noem, presented Drzycimski with a certificate and challenge coin from her office.
She also told him that his artwork will be passed by every member of congress multiple times per day.
"It's an honor," said Drzycimski, "I'm glad people are going to see it everyday like that. So, I didn't expect that much traffic."
Will entered the contest last year, but only placed second. That painting depicted Beaver Creek and hung in Noem's office for the last year.
