Congresswoman Kristi Noem today reacted to a new report by the National Trust for Historic Preservation that addresses the preservation of historic buildings, like the Battle Mountain Sanitarium in Hot Springs, S.D., by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

"The Battle Mountain Sanitarium has long provided critical care to South Dakota veterans and continues to serve a critical role in the Hot Springs community," said Rep. Noem in a written statement that was read at the report’s unveiling on Thursday.

"I fear that the Veterans Administration, however, has systematically neglected the historic properties in its care to the detriment of the veterans they serve," added Rep. Noem.  "I am hopeful that the empirical evidence displayed in this report will help to encourage the Veterans Administration to fully utilize national landmarks, including the Battle Mountain Sanitarium, in order to deliver the best possible healthcare to our nation’s veterans."
