Washington, D.C. – Rep. Kristi Noem today joined Sens. John Thune and Tim Johnson in a meeting with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Eric Shinseki to discuss the future of the Black Hills Health Care System.  During the meeting, Secretary Shinseki announced the VA would be taking a dramatic step toward closing the Hot Springs VA by launching a formal environmental impact study. There will be an opportunity for public input during the environmental impact study.

“This is not the decision any of us wanted to see the Secretary make, nor was it the decision our veterans and the Hot Springs community deserved,” said Rep. Noem.  “Ensuring the Hot Springs VA can continue to deliver the best possible healthcare to South Dakota veterans has been a top priority during my time in Congress.  I am deeply disappointed that the VA is now looking to move forward on a plan that many South Dakota veterans are adamantly opposed to and that could jeopardize the care those who have fought for our country need and deserve.”
