U.S. Representative Kristi Noem today called on Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to step down, following a new Inspector General report that found a systemic problem at VA facilities nationwide, including the manipulation of records to guise extended wait times:

“Our country has seen enough,” said Rep. Noem.  “We have offered more funding and more time, but the problem persists.  I have heard from veterans in South Dakota who are happy with their service, but many have also contacted my office with concerns about the backlog.  This is a systemic problem that must be addressed immediately before more veterans feel the impact of VA failures.  I believe this is not only a failure of bureaucracy, but also a failure of leadership.  Our veterans deserve a fresh start and a new set of eyes on the problem.”
