Members of South Dakota’s Congressional delegation are supporting former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as Secretary of Agriculture. Representative Kristi Noem says Perdue is a close family friend who she has hunted with on her farm and so she can attest to his character, plus she says he has a strong background in agriculture.

Noem says she did express her concern to the Administration about the number of cabinet members representing the southern U.S., including Perdue.

South Dakota Senator John Thune agrees that Perdue has the right experience to head USDA and believes he will represent all of agriculture as they write the next farm bill.

A date has not been set for the Ag Secretary’s confirmation hearing.
