Rep. Noem Comment on E15 Decision

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Kristi Noem (R-SD) made the following comments in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to approve the use of E15 (15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline) in cars and light trucks with a model year of 2001 or newer.

“This is welcome, but unnecessarily delayed, news.  The EPA has dragged its feet throughout this process without good reason.  E15 is safe to use and the science proves it.  Hopefully this decision will help increase demand for ethanol and, in turn, reduce our dependence on foreign sources of oil,” said Noem.

In October of last year the EPA approved E15 use only in cars and light trucks from model year 2007 and newer.  Previously only E10 was allowed in non-flex fuel vehicles.
